  1. I'm not sure what Market you're in but you can't reinstall deteriorated aggregate material in most markets. Not only that you're literally taking a shot heard concrete material that's 20 years old and taping it together? Dang buddy that is absolutely not okay.

  2. Hey there Dan wanted to say thanks for the offer the answer my questions. But, I have since found out that my insurance company requires a licensed contractor do the work so I will not be doing the repairs. Your not is So Cal are you?

  3. Dan your knowledge is just top notch I'm learning a lot from you, great videos. Would I have thought just fill that entire gap with adhesive is best? ?? I need to do a repair on my roof can I get in touch with you with some questions? I'm sure I will have some even after watching all your videos.

  4. Incredibly helpful. Thanks for being so thorough. I am more confident that I can survey my roof for potential problems and correct the problems as they occur. Tony Wren

  5. Hi Duster Dan, I hope your consulting is going well. Just watched our video. I have the same roof tile you are working on. After a bad experience with a roof leak last year, I feel much more empowered to take control of my own destiny. Do you have any videos that show how to seal around solar panel footings? That would be super helpful.

  6. Have the exact Monier tile on my roof- shit contractor did so much wrong no beam extension at any ridge 500' of rounds sitting on all ridges no hold down fasteners on edges w/o nails no nails on any ridge caps- no sealing on exposed ridges.. Valleys have chunks of broken tile used to support tiles in valleys holding back yrs of dirt/mulch-leaves and forcing water to spread out of valley +++++

  7. Dan , you are a perfect example of the old school , 30 Lbs. felt underlayment and nails, when well installed , you don't need the expensive and overpriced labor or many so called roofers using peel and stick underlayment .
next time try to find the matching tiles, usually the manufacturer makes the new version of the old tiles like this.

Good repair ! I would definitely have you on my roof !!
    Eric.

  8. Hello Dan,
    super informative!
we just re-do our tiles roof there is no leak, just due to over 34 years, underlayment may be deteriorated
    be proactive instead of reactive.
besides replaced more than few dry rod Shiplap and one water damaged fascia board.
roofer installed 3 O'Hagin attic vents, later I found out those vents were make for shingle roof application, roofer said the base is the same.
your video is absolutely great help
as I noticed there are many broken lower corner tiles all at the left hand bottom.
I have sealed few of those tiles, after seeing your video knowing I had over sealed the channels.
Will have to go up to the roof broken off part of the sealant.
    appreciated the detail information.

  9. Great video, our tiles are same, we have moss growing between tiles.
Would you recommend power hosing to remove moss.
Have u also a video on vent tiles for these tiles.
    Thanks

  10. Hi Dan I'm looking for a bendable material that you would use like around a skylight to meet or connect with the tiled roof.
A corrugated soft metal that shapes around the S tile ,I've seen them around skylights with S tiles on the roof
So when the the water runs off the base of the skylight frame it runs on the shaped metal around the tile making it a smooth water runoff
If I knew how to attach a photo I would velux makes a real nice transition kit but you have to buy the whole kit.
I just need the bendable portion about twenty feet for water to transfer smoothly from roof to tile, for a project I'm doing .
    Thanks for any advice

  11. Hi Dan great video where did you do this repair ?This tile looks like monier Tile I'm redoing my roof a company will power wash then expoxy and color. This company thats doing the work informed me of a caseanyway there is a Class Action Claim on Monier Tile finally on third appeal judgment against Monier , defected Tile slurring not holding up to its 50 year warrantyThey will pay out $3700.00 per customer .My question for you is I'm looking for S tile water diversion for my roof. Also check out the Monier class action lawsuit third appeal

  12. This is Pam's husband Bob. I noticed in the video that the caps holding the felt paper were not covered with a roof coating to help seal any nail holes , would that be a good idea to do that or is it not necessary? By the way, excellent video and very informative. Well done !!!

  13. if you seal the broken cracks once you tiled it in then ur not sealing the crack under the full tile above and instead of sealing tiles together you should make a lead tie double it up for strenghth and fold it over the tiles you cant nail, same as slates.

  14. why not use new tiles or at least lead flash it.
another tip is if you cant get a replacement tile if that is the case put a broken tile thats been flashed or sealed at the top of the roof as high as possible as it gets less water.
maybe 4th one down from the ridge.
crazy how you guys dont use battens lol

  15. Hey Dan, thanks for your very thorough videos. You are not only good at what you do but also very passionate about it.
Quick question, we have same kind of roof as in this video with plywood sheets below the felt paper (3 floor condo building with an attic). We just had a leak yesterday for the first time, is it possible that the plywood underneath the felt could be rotten? Plywood needs to be in contact with water for a long time before it begins to rot, no?

  16. When you lift the very last (top) row of tiles using your pry bar (to make room to slide the next lower tile in), doesn't that slightly loosen the nails holding those tiles? If so, can that cause a leak or other problems? Great videos, thank you.
